The New York Mets stayed hot Tuesday night at Citi Field, defeating the Chicago White Sox 6-4 in the second of their three-game set. With the win, the Mets improved to 34-21 on the season — now 13 games over .500 — and remain just behind the NL East-leading Philadelphia Phillies. New York currently ranks sixth in MLB’s power standings and is eyeing a series sweep in the finale this afternoon.
The Mets wasted no time getting on the board, lighting up the scoreboard with a pair of two-run homers in the bottom of the first inning. Pete Alonso opened the scoring by launching a shot to left for his 14th home run of the season. Moments later, DH Jared Young followed up with a two-run blast of his own, continuing to make the most of his opportunities in the lineup.
Francisco Lindor had a tough night at the plate early, striking out twice in his first three at-bats. But the All-Star shortstop delivered when it mattered, lacing a clutch RBI double in his fourth at-bat in the eighth inning to give the Mets a late insurance run.
On the mound, Tylor Megill struck out six over five innings to pick up the win, while the bullpen held the line. Reed Garrett locked things down in the ninth, earning his sixth save of the year.
Now riding a four-game win streak, the Mets look to finish off the sweep against the White Sox in the series finale this afternoon at Citi Field.
