With a powerful message layered over a rhythmically complex afrobeat foundation, Seun Kuti and Egypt 80 release Heavier Yet (Lays The Crownless Head) [Deluxe Edition]. This expanded release features new remixes and standout collaborations with jazz luminary Kamasi Washington and neo-soul sensation Adi Oasis.
Saxophonist, percussionist, and activist Seun Kuti delivers six tracks, each presented in two versions, amplifying the political voice that echoes the legacy of his father, Fela Kuti, the founder of Egypt 80 and a relentless advocate for Pan-Africanism and human rights, especially in Nigeria.

The album kicks off with T.O.P., a rich and layered opening track that sets the tone with masterful instrumentation and an intricate tapestry of voices. It’s a sonic manifesto that immediately immerses the listener.
Right after, Dey brings in Damian Marley, son of reggae icon Bob Marley, blending roots reggae with Afrobeat in a seamless fusion. Originally featured in the 2024 version of the album, the song champions African unity, reaching out to the diaspora in places like Jamaica with pride and power.
Other highlights include Stand Well Well – Grand Stand Version, featuring De La Soul, which critiques cultural homogenization with sharp lyrical precision. Love & Revolution returns in a new Cinnamon version enriched by Adi Oasis’ smooth yet commanding vocals, adding fresh emotional textures to the track. Meanwhile, Move – Keep Moving Version puts Kamasi Washington in the spotlight, handing him the reins to elevate the saxophone to new heights.
This deluxe edition follows the original Heavier Yet album, the fifth studio effort from Egypt 80 under Seun’s direction, which was co-produced by none other than Lenny Kravitz and widely praised by critics. With the updated release, Seun aims to build on that acclaim, offering a deeper, more collaborative take on the original work.
Oluseun Anikulapo Kuti, known globally as Seun Kuti, was deeply influenced by his father’s music and activism. He began opening shows for Egypt 80 at age 9 and officially joined the band before turning 12. After Fela died in 1997, Seun took over the group’s leadership and has since released six albums: Many Things (2008), From Africa with Fury: Rise (2011), A Long Way Beginning (2014), Black Times (2018, featuring Carlos Santana), Heavier Yet (2024), and now the Deluxe Edition in 2025.
Heavier Yet (Lays The Crownless Head) [Deluxe Edition] is a bold and powerful follow-up that builds on an already outstanding foundation. With fresh voices and renewed energy, it proves that sequels can be just as impactful, if not more, when made with purpose, passion, and a clear vision for cultural empowerment.
