‘Fantastic Four: First Steps’ Debuts at No. 1 With $118M at Domestic Box Office

“Fantastic Four: First Steps” Review: Flashy MCU Reintroduction Races Before It Walks

Marvel’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps is off to a strong start, debuting with $118 million from 4,125 North American theaters over the weekend. The opening surpassed projections of $100 to $110 million, marking the fourth-largest domestic debut of 2025.

Directed by Matt Shakman, the film introduces a new cast, featuring Pedro Pascal as Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as the Invisible Woman, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as The Thing, and Joseph Quinn as the Human Torch. The team faces off against a planet-consuming cosmic threat in this latest Marvel installment, which also generated $100 million overseas for a global total of $218 million.

With a production budget exceeding $200 million, First Steps will need to maintain sustained momentum to avoid the sharp drop-offs that plagued recent Marvel releases, such as Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and Captain America: Brave New World.

Despite releasing just two weeks after DC’s Superman, the film managed to dominate the weekend box office. According to Variety, Superman dropped to second place with $24.9 million, bringing its domestic haul to $289.5 million and global total to $502.7 million.

Fantastic Four: First Steps trails only Minecraft, Lilo & Stitch, and Superman for the biggest domestic debuts this year.
