Master P is looking to make University of New Orleans basketball games a must attend event. P, who took over as the President of Basketball Operations this year, revealed he called up Lil Wayne to perform.
“I’m bringing some huge talent, but I reached out to Lil Wayne’s management team, so we’re gonna see how that goes,” P said. “But if it doesn’t work out, we’ve got 11 more home games which we can bring him in.”
Earlier this year, the New Orleans Privateers men’s basketball team has appointed Percy “Master P” Miller as its new President of Basketball Operations, bringing a legendary New Orleans icon into the program’s leadership.
Head coach Stacy Hollowell expressed enthusiasm for the addition, highlighting Miller’s deep ties to the city and his extensive basketball experience. “Coach Miller cares deeply about his city, the University of New Orleans, and Privateers basketball. We will benefit from his basketball knowledge and relationships within the game and community,” Hollowell said.
While widely known as a music mogul and entrepreneur, Miller has a rich basketball background. A former college player at the University of Houston and Merritt College, he later played professionally in the CBA and even had NBA stints with the Charlotte Hornets and Toronto Raptors. As a coach, his AAU team, P. Miller’s Ballers, won three national championships, producing future NBA stars like DeMar DeRozan, Brandon Jennings, and Jalen Suggs.
Reflecting on his journey, Miller emphasized the impact of basketball on his life and his vision for the Privateers. “As a kid growing up in New Orleans, basketball changed and saved my life. UNO was once one of the best programs in the country, and I’m committed to bringing back that winning tradition,” he said. “This is bigger than the game—it’s about educating and creating future leaders.”
Beyond basketball, Miller is dedicated to mentorship and community upliftment. As the founder of the Team Hope Foundation, he has worked extensively to improve the lives of young people and the elderly. His leadership aims to provide Privateers players with opportunities, resources, and guidance to excel on and off the court.
With honorary doctorates from Lincoln University and Grambling State University, Miller’s contributions extend beyond sports and entertainment. His appointment signals a new era for UNO basketball, promising both athletic success and community enrichment.
