Angel Reese will have to sit out after picking up her eighth technical foul of the season. The Chicago Sky forward has officially been suspended for one game and will miss Friday’s matchup on September 5 against the Indiana Fever, according to ESPN.
The call that led to the suspension happened late in the first half of the Sky’s 88 to 64 win over the Connecticut Sun on September 3. Reese was assessed a technical after she made contact with Aaliyah Edwards’ head while the two fought for position under the basket. League rules state that “players and coaches are suspended one game after receiving an eighth technical foul in the regular season and one game for every two technicals after that.”
Chicago’s head coach, Tyler Marsh, made it clear following the game that the Sky would challenge the call and ask the league for a review.
Even with the technical foul hanging over her, Reese turned in another strong performance. She posted 18 points and 13 rebounds, notching her 23rd double-double of the season.
Crew chief Randy Richardson explained why the call was made in the pool report after the game. “Yeah, so we had a flail on the court; so we had a non-call on the court and then we went to take a look at it and we deemed that to be a non-basketball act by Reese and we ended up calling the flail an unsportsmanlike technical foul,” Richardson said.
