The Lego Movie made $69.1 million when it debuted this weekend, thats the second-largest February debut of all-time after the $83 million grossed by The Passion of the Christ ten years ago. Warner Bros. chose the release date this weekend because they knew that word-of-mouth would carry into next weekend, and since everyone is off from school, that would give families more of an opportunity to watch the film. This is easily the largest debut for a Warner Bros. animated feature. The film cost just $60 million to make and is likely going to be the start of a new animated franchise.
