It took them 45 years to do but they finally got it done, the L.A. Kings are Stanley Cup champions. Monday night the Kings defeated the New Jersey Devils 6-1 to finish off the best of seven series 4-2. The game was over before it even started as the Devils were hit with a 5 minute major penalty in the 1st period. If you don’t know the rules during a major penalty when the opposing team scores the team that was penalized does not get their skater back from the penalty box. During this time the Kings poured in 3 goals during the 5-minute major, after that it was all waiting for L.A. fans. The Kings also became the first 8 seed to win the Stanley Cup, in their route to a title they defeated the 1 seeded Vancouver Canucks (4-1), the 2 seeded St. Louis Blues (4-0), the 3 seeded Phoenix Coyotes (4-1), and for the Stanley Cup, the Eastern Conference 6 seeded Devils (4-2). Congratulations for the city of Los Angeles, and the Kings.
