The New York Times Trolls The NY Knicks With Wanted Ad Looking For Quality Basketball

Can Phil catch a break?

Yesterday it was announced that the New York Knicks have shipped away guards J.R. Smith and Iman Shumpert in exchange for some none guaranteed contracts, and a future first round pick. After falling to the Memphis Grizzles Monday night, the Knickerbockers have lost 12 straight. Not only is this the longest losing streak in franchise history but it also puts their current record at 5-32, the worst in the league. While it clearly seems as though the Phil Jackson helmed Knicks are tanking this season, preparing to rebuild for the future, it leaves season ticket holders with some sorry basketball to watch for the remainder of the season. Moreover, local sports writers have the arduous task of covering an uninteresting team.

As depressing as it might be for fans, The New York Times is taking a lighthearted approach to the matter after publishing a wanted ad seeking better quality basketball. All of this on behalf of writer Scott Cacciola.

The New York Times:

“So we feel it’s only merciful to give our Knicks beat writer, Scott Cacciola, a break from such woeful basketball. He deserves to see the game played at a higher level. For the next month or so, we would like to point him to some good, quality basketball, wherever it might exist. Any suggestions?

Maybe there’s another N.B.A. team that warrants his attention, or perhaps a high school or a college squad. For that matter, maybe you know of a strong coed team at your local Y that Scott should write about. Tell us where to send him. Submit your ideas in the comments section.”

With the misery Knicks fans have dealt with for most of the new millennium, one more bad season isn’t too much to ask for is it?
