8 years ago, some chatter around the boxing realm was that the two most popular fighters in the world, Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao might meet in the ring for what may be the most watched boxing event of all time. Having spent years battling the same opponents but never squaring off in the ring, some steam for the possible clash lost some luster when Pacquiao was violently knocked out by Juan Manuel Marquez back in 2012. Now, with virtually no other credible opponents left to conquer, both fighters have been toying with the idea of getting in the ring once and for all.

In recent weeks, talks began to intensify, as both fighters publicly stated that they want this fight to happen and are willing to compromise on profit splits in order to see it through. With that, the Internet was abuzz earlier in the week when Money May and Pac-man were spotted exchanging phone numbers during a Miami Heat game. It seems as though that was all that was needed as TMZ is now reporting that the much anticipated showdown will indeed take place this year.

According to the report, a source close to the situation has confirmed that a verbal agreement has taken place and now, it is merely a formality for the paperwork to be drawn up and both fighters to sign on the dotted line. The source also cites that both parties have also agreed on a date and location.
