Some pretty big rap and Hip-Hop awards have already been announced
The drought is over. After infamously going 0-7 at last year’s Grammy Awards, Kendrick Lamar is going home with some hardware in 2015.
Despite the fact that the status of his yet-to-be-titled sophomore album is still up in the air, the lead single off of it, ‘i,” has already earned Kendrick Lamar two very early Grammy Awards, for “Best Rap Song” and “Best Rap Performance.” Kendrick beat out Drake, Eminem and others for one of the most coveted awards in music.
In addition to that, Eminem took home the oft-debated “Best Rap Album” award this year, for the late-2013 Marshall Mathers LP 2 release, beating out ScHoolboy Q, Iggy Azalea, Wiz Khalifa and Childish Gambino–some pretty stiff competition–for the 6th “Best Rap Album” award of his career.
Pharrell has taken home two early awards as well, for “Best Music Video” and “Best Urban Contemporary Album” thanks to “Happy” and GIRL respectively. In a couple of not-so-surprising announcements, Jay Z and Beyonce‘s monumental “Drunk In Love” collaboration is this year’s “Best R&B Song” recipient, and Eminem and Rihanna‘s “The Monster” has earned the frequent collaborators the Grammy Award for “Best Rap/Sung Collaboration.”
