Fifty Shades of…Rape?
Sky rocketing through box offices on the first week, Fifty Shades of Grey has been a fan favorite but has raised interesting conversation. The movie has put the erotic practice of BDSM on the forefront, and although this may be a preference for some, the provocative film may been the result of sexual assault.
A 19-year-old University of Illinois at Chicago student, Mohammad Hossain, has been charged with sexually assaulting a female student. Cook County prosecutors say the encounter was a re-enactment of scenes from the film Fifty Shades of Grey.
Hossain allegedly asked the female to remove her clothing. She agreed and removed all of her clothing except her underwear. He then bound her arms above her head, used another belt to bind her legs and stuffed a necktie into her mouth. Hossain then removed the young woman’s underwear and began striking her with punches. The woman told authorities that she’d begun crying and told Hossain to “stop,” but he continued the sexual assault.
Hossain was arrested later that night when the incident was reported to campus police. He told police that he thought the sex was consensual, and claimed he was attempting to re-enact a scene from Fifty Shades Of Grey.
His bail has been set at $500,000.
