Denise Katrina Mathews aka Vanity, the lead singer of Prince‘s all girl band Vanity 6 has died, according to reports from TMZ.
Matthews had long suffered from kidney and other abdominal illnesses throughout her life and career.
Matthews is most recognized as “Laura Charles” from the cult classic flick The Last Dragon alongside martial arts star Taimak, who played “Bruce Leroy”. She was the lead singer of the female trio from 1981 until it disbanded in 1983. The group was well known for their 1982 disco hit “Nasty Girl”.
Mentor and musical colleague Sheila E took to Twitter to express her feelings to her longtime friend.
