A Style Retrospective: Happy Birthday Tyler, The Creator

Zany mind and creative talent Tyler, The Creator has always had a knack for standing out.

The reigning champion and arbiter of the Odd Future brand stands triumphant as a mainstay of the culture, crafting beats that emulate N.E.R.D in their often rambunctiously immersive and fun sound, rebelliously standing for alternative Hip Hop. Carving his own lane by way of rhymes, Tyler’s last project Cherry Bomb relished in the luxury and excess of cars, jewelry and enjoyment while his initial sound provided a subdued contrast. Just as his sound has evolved, so too has his image, currently made up of almost completely eponymous wears, following in the footsteps of his idols like Kanye and Pharrell who don almost always their self created garments.

From the high socks and cutoff shorts seen juxtaposed with the booming bass of “Yonkers” on stages, a Bathing Ape look book feature and consistent wearing GOLFWANG apparel throughout his career, we take a look back at the stylish stages of Tyler, the Creator’s aesthetic on his 25th birthday.

2010

An early adopter of Diamond Supply Co., Ice Cream/BBC and Supreme, all bonafide street wear labels, the first appearance of Tyler on a large scale saw a young kid interested in forthright fashion. Tyler’s entire image is to this day based off straight forward streetwear and casual cool. An early penchant for brands such as Supreme and Vans is the focus of some of his braggadocios lyrics and no doubt earlier than 2010, Tyler was up on one of clothing’s most coveted entities.
