Harriet Tubman was born into slavery and is responsible for freeing dozens of slaves via the Underground Railroad. In addition, she worked as a spy for the Union and fought for a woman’s right to vote. The heroic story of Tubman is perfect for a movie and it’s finally happening.
Simply titled Harriet, the movie will have notable helmsman Seith Mann (The Breaks) attached to it, and Charles D. King serving as one of the lead producers. Production is expected to begin early next year with a script written by Gregory Allen Howard, accredited for writing Ali and Remember the Titans starring Denzel Washington.
This isn’t the first or last time Tubman’s legendary life has come to screen. In 1978, the beloved Cicely Tyson played Tubman in a television miniseries titled A Woman Called Moses based on a novel by Marcy Heidish. On another note, Viola Davis is developing a film for HBO based on Kate Clifford Larson’s book Bound for the Promised Land: Harriet Tubman.
