Zayn Malik was set to appear at the Capital Summertime Ball [Saturday, June 11] tonight in London, but the singer cancelled shortly before he was set to perform due to personal reasons. He then took to Twitter to release a statement and explained to his fans why he couldn’t perform.
Zayn said in his post:
“Unfortunately my anxiety that has haunted me throughout the last few months around live performances has gotten the better of me…With the magnitude of the event, I have suffered the worst anxiety of my career.”
Wembley Stadium, where the concert was set to take place, seats 90,000 people and was sold out for his concert. Capital also tweeted about the event, apologizing to fans and wishing Zayn a speedy recovery.
Guys, we're absolutely gutted that @zaynmalik is unable to perform tonight due to illness. We know you're with us in wishing him better.

This is not the first time Zayn has struggled with anxiety before performing, and famously dropped out of the group One Direction because he wanted to live a more relaxed lifestyle. Since then his solo career has taken off, releasing his first album, Mind of Mine, earlier this year. You can read his full statement below.
