Kevin Durant is without a doubt the most highly touted free agent to hit the market since LeBron James’ “decision” back in 2010. Since last summer, teams have already been angling to possibly have the perennial all-star join their line up. For his part, Durant remained mum on the subject all season long, but after falling to the Golden State Warriors during the Western Conference Finals, talks of him leaving Oklahoma City this summer have grown louder.
Today, Frank Isola of the New York Daily News reported that a source told him Durant is leaning toward joining the Warriors after their second consecutive Finals appearance. With that said, Isola did highlight that there is possibility that Durant may sign a two-year deal with the Thunder that includes a one-year opt-out clause but the revelations are still startling nonetheless. Furthermore, ESPN.com’s Royce Young shared that at this point in his career, Durant is more concerned about winning a championship as opposed to money: “I’m worried about basketball. That’s what it is for me. It’s a basketball decision.”
For their part, the Warriors would surely welcome the addition of Durant to their lineup, but would not be able to offer him a max contract that his talents demand and would have to part ways with Harrison Barnes and Andrew Bogut in order to free up cap space.
