Carmelo Anthony Takes To Social Media To Demand Action From His Fellow Superstar Athletes

There has been a tremendous out pouring of support from around the country to those affected in Dallas yesterday [Thursday, July 7]. Carmelo Anthony is the latest big profile name to come out on social media and demand change.

Melo took to all of his social media accounts today to plead with his fellow athletes to help create change in this country. Echoing the sentiments that Attorney General Loretta Lynch made earlier today, Melo advocated for non-violent action after the terrible events in Dallas, as well as the two deaths of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile earlier this week.

In his post he called for action:

“While I don’t have a solution, and I’m pretty sure a lot of people don’t have a solution, we need to come together more than anything at this time. We need each other. These politicians have to step up and fight for change. I’m calling for all my fellow ATHLETES to step up and take charge. Go to your local officials, leaders, congressman, assemblymen/assemblywoman and demand change. There’s NO more sitting back and being afraid of tackling and addressing political issues anymore. Those days are long gone. We have to step up and take charge. We can’t worry about what endorsements we gonna lose or whose going to look at us crazy. I need your voices to be heard.”

Lebron James also spoke out against the events in Dallas earlier today, and made a similar call to action. Melo emphasized that athletes need to put aside their financial safety and speak out against these tragedies. Hopefully his fellow NBA players, and athletes from all the other leagues, will follow in his foot steps and demand action from the American public and the politicians elected to serve our country.
