As most of the Asian community is celebrating the start of the Chinese New Year this week, one thing we’ve always appreciated about our fam overseas is how forward-thinking they are when it comes to the current state of fashion. For the SS19 season, Japan-based imprint Wacko Maria refashions traditional kimono garments into an everyday streetwear essential.
In addition to the standout kimono-inspired gear, there’s also a nod to retro Hawaiian shirts, tailored suits, outwear with dragon motifs, animal print offerings and even a few pieces that pay homage to reggae legend Bob Marley. With the many references seen throughout this extensive set of menswear, Wacko Maria creates a fresh bridge between time-honored staples in Japanese fashion and those that fall into the more refined method of menswear.
