Imagine averaging 28.6 ppg, 4.4 rpg, and 6.3 apg and not being named an All-Star. That’s the reality for Washington Wizard Bradley Beal.
The swingman is getting buckets and filling the stat sheet every night but that was not enough to be an NBA All-Star according to the coaches panel who selects the reserves.
After dropping 34 points in a 121-107 victory over the Charlotte Hornets, Beal said exactly how he felt.
“I’m a little pissed off about it,” Beal said to NBC Sports Washington. “I know how I am, I was kind of expecting it, honestly. It’s disrespectful, but the real ones know. I’ll just keep competing. I’m going to try to get my team in the playoffs for sure.”
Selected instead of Beal were Kris Middleton, Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo, Jayson Tatum, Damontas Sabonis, Kyle Lowry, and Ben Simmons. The belief that put them over Beal is they play on successful teams and possible contenders in the Eastern Conference. The worst record of any player selected as a reserve is 31-18. Beal’s Wizards sit in mediocrity at 16-31.
Beal suggests making the playoffs, which as of today he sits 5 games out of the eighth seed, which is currently held by the Brooklyn Nets.
Additional “snubs” in the East include Derrick Rose and Zach LaVine. Fans in the Western Conference have been pointing to Devin Booker who is also lighting up the scoreboards but his team also has a losing record.
