Born and raised in Miami, Florida, Reynaldo Cosme Villena was victim to a rough upbringing as a child. Experiencing the trauma from divorce and poverty, Reynaldo and his sister had no choice but to stay at a homeless shelter until his mother was employed and able to provide a better living situation. In 2014, he moved to Liberty City, Florida where he saw the dangers and vanity filled side of life.
Wanting a way out of financial woes and a better life for his mother, he found inspiration in the late icon, Tupac and adopted the moniker ReyTheGreat to pursue his passion for hip hop. Like the legend who influenced his style, he too was able to draw from experiences in his life to relay depth on the mic. His music attracted fans with its authenticity and lyrical flows that leak emotion over every beat. His name gained attention the bigger his catalog grew, enticing listeners with songs encompassing any mood or situation in life.
In time, ReyTheGreat gained a wider audience with the release of songs like “Be Chatting” featuring Sosa Greek and music videos like that of his hit “Don’t Play,” each of which is nearing 80K views and taking off. They serve as the prequel to ReyTheGreat’s full length project, “Forever Balling” arriving on 4-22-22. Word around the industry is that it holds the potential to be the best rap project of the year. Time will confirm the truth, but ReyTheGreat has dedicated himself to perfecting “Forever Balling,” pouring his heart and soul into every track.
