Netflix has released Champion, a gripping drama created by best-selling author Candice Carty-Williams, known for her acclaimed novel Queenie. The series is now available for streaming, offering viewers an immersive experience with an ensemble cast.
The recently launched BBC series’ soundtrack is also available, featuring performances by the show’s stars: Malcolm Kamulete, Corz, and Ray BLK. It was crafted with great care, drawing inspiration from the rich heritage of Black British music that influenced the series creator, bestselling author Candice Carty-Williams, who hails from South London. Ensuring the authenticity of Champion soundtrack was a crucial endeavor.
“Working on the music for the show was the best part for me,” Carty-Williams said. “Books were the beginning, and TV is now this part, but music has been the biggest part of my life.”
Ghetts and Ray BLK, the latter also portraying the character Honey in the show, have taken on roles as Music Executives and are credited as writers throughout the soundtrack. Their involvement is complemented by other notable talents shaping the show’s musical essence, including M1llionz, Shola Ama, and Debbie, who have contributed their expertise. Additionally, Ceebeaats is acknowledged as one of the credited producers involved in crafting the sound.
Déja J Bowens makes an exciting TV debut, sharing the screen with talents like Malcolm Kamulete (Top Boy, Ill Manors), music sensation Ray BLK in her TV debut, Nadine Marshall (Sherwood, Small Axe), Ray Fearon (His Dark Materials, Beauty and the Beast), and Jo Martin (Doctor Who, Top Boy). The diverse cast includes Kerim Hassan, Adeyinka Akinrinade, Tom Forbes, Genesis Lynea, Karl Collins, Francis Lovehall, Corey Weekes, Rachel Adedeji, and more.
