Mo’Nique Calls Out Tyler Perry Over Hypocrisy Following Angie Stone Tribute

The Comedian Demands Accountability for Hollywood Blackballing

Mo’Nique has never been one to hold her tongue, and her latest statement proves that her long-standing dispute with Tyler Perry is far from over. The Academy Award-winning comedian and actress took to social media last week to challenge Perry’s recent remarks at Angie Stone’s memorial service, calling out what she sees as glaring contradictions between his words and actions.

Perry delivered a heartfelt eulogy at the late R&B singer’s service, passionately condemning the music industry for mistreating Stone throughout her career and denying her rightful recognition and compensation. But as Mo’Nique watched his emotional speech, she couldn’t help but draw parallels between Perry’s outrage over Stone’s treatment and her own struggles in Hollywood—struggles she attributes in part to Perry himself.

Mo’Nique’s Open Letter to Tyler Perry

In a lengthy open letter, co-signed by her husband and business partner Sidney Hicks, Mo’Nique offered condolences to Angie Stone’s family before directing a pointed response at Perry. The comedian laid out a series of grievances, highlighting what she sees as the hypocrisy in Perry’s stance on industry mistreatment.

“You expressed anger over Angie’s mistreatment. Yet, you labeled me ‘difficult to work with,’ despite never having worked with me,” Mo’Nique wrote. “How can you condemn poor treatment of others when you’ve imposed the same on me? We have audio of you admitting you were wrong.”

Mo’Nique is referring to her longstanding claim that Perry, along with Oprah Winfrey and director Lee Daniels, blacklisted her from Hollywood after she refused to participate in unpaid promotional work for Precious—the 2009 film that won her an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. In her letter, she reminded Perry that he had privately acknowledged his role in harming her career but has yet to offer the public apology he promised in 2016.

Where’s the Apology? Where’s the Accountability?

The actress didn’t mince words when addressing the financial toll that being blacklisted has taken on her career. “You asked, ‘Where’s the money she’s owed?’ Well, where’s my public apology that you promised in 2016? The false narrative you perpetuated helped blackball me, costing me tens of millions.”

She also took issue with Perry’s biblical references in his eulogy, questioning whether his faith aligns with his actions. “You said we should be careful in how we treat ‘children of God.’ As a man of faith, where is your responsibility to act with love and truth? You promised me an apology years ago, but it’s yet to come.”

Mo’Nique’s Fight for Justice Continues

Mo’Nique’s call-out serves as another chapter in her fight for accountability in Hollywood. She has consistently spoken out about unfair treatment within the industry, even when it meant standing alone. Her letter to Perry is not just a demand for personal justice—it’s a statement about power, integrity, and the consequences of unchecked influence.

Closing her message with a biblical reference of her own, Mo’Nique reminded Perry of Mark 8:36: “What will it profit a man to gain the whole world but lose his soul?”

Now, all eyes are on Perry. Will he finally deliver the apology he once promised, or will this be another instance of Hollywood sweeping its misdeeds under the rug? One thing is certain—Mo’Nique isn’t backing down anytime soon.
