SEE IT: SZA Manifests Role in Marvel Cinematic Universe

SZA is ready to trade the stage for the superhero spotlight if it was up to her and not the MCU brass who actually decide that kind of thing.

During her appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show on Friday (Mar. 21), the Grammy-winning artist opened up about her aspirations to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and revealed her dream role: Storm, the iconic X-Men character.

Get this, SZA is fresh off her acting debut in the short film One Of Them Days alongside Keke Palmer, where she is eager to explore more opportunities in front of the camera.

In fairness, One of Them Days was critically acclaimed and grossed $50 million against a relatively low $14 million budget, not including marketing.

The Grammy winning singer shared that her love for comic books, a passion she shares with her father, has inspired her to pursue a role in the superhero genre. “I think that would be so gnarly if I could be Storm’s origin story,” SZA said, expressing her enthusiasm for the character. She believes she’d be a “perfect” fit to bring the mutant weather goddess to life on the big screen.

While SZA’s acting career is just taking off, her music continues to break records. Her critically acclaimed album S.O.S. has been making waves, recently tying with Michael Jackson’s Thriller for the longest-running Top 10 album by a Black artist on the Billboard 200. Speaking to TMZ Hip Hop outside Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Tuesday, SZA reflected on the milestone. “It’s surreal,” she said, acknowledging the comparisons to the King of Pop’s legendary work.

What makes S.O.S.’s achievement even more impressive is its rapid rise to classic status. Unlike Thriller, which solidified its place in music history before the streaming era, SZA’s album has reached this milestone in less than two years. It’s a testament to her artistry and the enduring power of great music in an ever-changing industry.

SZA’s momentum shows no signs of slowing down. Her collaboration with Kendrick Lamar, “Luther,” is currently the No. 1 song in the country, riding high on the success of their electrifying Super Bowl performance. Fans are buzzing with anticipation about a potential music video, but SZA has remained tight-lipped. Speculation is growing that the visual could debut during her upcoming tour with Lamar, adding another layer of excitement for concertgoers.
