The music world is mourning the loss of Andre “Boogie” Wilson, the talented singer and nephew of R&B icon Charlie Wilson, who passed away this week after a battle with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. He was 58.
Best known for his unforgettable hook on Kurupt and DJ Battlecat’s 1998 West Coast classic “We Can Freak It,” Boogie carved out a respected lane in R&B and hip hop with his smooth vocals and songwriting abilities. He was the eldest son of Gap Band founder Ronnie Wilson, making music not just a profession, but a family legacy.
Charlie Wilson reflected on his nephew’s life and talent while speaking with TMZ Hip Hop alongside fellow soul legend El DeBarge. “He was truly gifted,” Charlie said, adding that Boogie had a rare talent for both singing and writing. El DeBarge also shared kind words, describing Boogie as someone “who had a lot of love in his heart.”

In addition to his work with Kurupt, Andre Wilson collaborated with artists such as Snoop Dogg and Faith Evans, contributing to the soulful West Coast sound that defined an era.
As the family prepares for a farewell, Boogie’s children have launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover the costs of his medical care and funeral arrangements.
Rest in peace to Andre “Boogie” Wilson—a voice and spirit gone too soon, but forever a part of the soundtrack of a generation.
