Timbaland is reflecting on how fatherhood became the anchor that helped him navigate the highs and lows of fame. The legendary producer joined his daughter Reign Mosley on her podcast Reign Check on August 13, where the two spoke candidly about family, growth, and the true meaning of being a parent.
Timbaland, born Timothy Mosley, shares Reign with his ex-wife Monique Idlett, whom he divorced in 2013 after a decade of marriage. He is also the father of two sons, Demetrius and Frankie, from earlier relationships.
When Reign asked how parenthood shaped his outlook on success, Timbaland explained that while it didn’t completely alter his perspective, it gave him a deeper appreciation for the role of being a father. “It didn’t really shift my perspective on fatherhood. It probably made me have a more respect for fatherhood,” he told her. “It kind of gave my success a purpose in a way. I really think it was needed.”
He went on to say that being a dad kept him balanced during times when fame could have consumed him. “Fatherhood was needed in my life because success could have destroyed me because you get caught up in so many things,” Timbaland said. “God will place things that you don’t know that you need in your life and fatherhood was the thing that I needed to balance success. Because if I didn’t, I could have been destroyed.”
