The woman accusing Jay-Z of rape is continuing her legal fight to remain anonymous as the case moves forward.
In response to the rap icon’s defamation lawsuit against her and her attorney, Tony Buzbee, the accuser, referred to in court as Jane Doe, has asked the presiding judge to allow her identity to stay sealed. Her legal team submitted a report from her psychiatrist, warning of the devastating impact public exposure could have on her well-being.
“From a psychiatric standpoint, the forced disclosure of her identity in this context would have catastrophic consequences for her mental health,” the report stated. “Such public exposure would destabilize her current recovery. The impact would likely be severe, with a high risk of exacerbation of her psychiatric symptoms, deterioration of her functioning, and a profound negative effect on her overall prognosis.”
While her identity remains unknown to the public, JAY-Z and his legal team are aware of who she is. The woman initially alleged that both JAY-Z and Diddy raped her when she was just 13 years old. However, she later dropped her suit after inconsistencies were found in her claims.
Following the dismissal, JAY-Z filed a defamation lawsuit of his own, alleging that the accusations caused him significant financial damage. According to the filing, the Roc Nation founder says he lost lucrative contracts in both sports and entertainment worth at least $20 million. He also claims he was denied a $55 million credit line and that Roc Nation was refused a $115 million loan from a major bank—losses he attributes directly to the now-dropped allegations.
Jane Doe and Buzbee have made multiple attempts to have the defamation case dismissed, but those efforts have so far been unsuccessful.
