Inside the Collection with Michael Rainey Jr.
When asked about the collection’s strong ’70s-inspired theme, Rainey explained, “I’m big on period pieces, I love how clothes tell the story of a time. The ’70s still feels fresh to me: flares, corduroy, velour, its attitude.” He noted that his goal with boohooMAN was to translate that energy for today by pairing the ’70s shapes with modern street staples like a crisp tee, a letterman jacket, and sneakers, so the looks feel “effortless, not forced.”

Rainey, whose personal style is known for mixing elevated streetwear with high fashion, also shared his favorite versatile pieces from the collection. He pointed to the flare jeans as a go-to item, explaining that they can be dressed up or down. “Daytime, I’ll do them with a simple tee and sneakers; at night I’ll swap in a knit polo or a tucked button-up with loafers and it’s instantly cleaner,” he said. He also highlighted the velour track pants, which can be elevated with loafers for a night out or styled with a hoodie and sneakers for a more casual look. “Same pieces, different intention,” he noted.

The actor also reflected on how the collaboration with boohooMAN reflects his own personal growth. He said, “It was cool to help push the brand into a sharper space. I’ve grown up in front of people, been acting since I was nine, and my style grew up with me.” He explained that his style has become more intentional over time, focusing on “cleaner fits, richer textures, pieces that actually last.” Rainey believes the collaboration successfully delivers “an accessible price point with considered details,” and that it speaks to a cultural desire to “look put together without losing yourself.” He concluded, “If this collection helps you elevate and still keep it real, then we did our job.”
