Jussie Smollett recently appeared on SiriusXM’s The Julia Cunningham Show to discuss his experiences on “Special Forces.” He opened up about confronting insecurities and internalized homophobia that arose from the fallout of his 2019 scandal.

Smollett reflected on watching past interviews, including one with Robin Roberts, and realizing how much he had projected a need to prove his strength and resilience. He acknowledged the challenges of facing personal fears at 42 years old and the importance of self-reflection, noting that his journey on the show forced him to confront emotions he hadn’t previously addressed.

“I think about the feelings I have, the insecurities, and the extra proving of oneself,” Smollett said. “What you have to do is check yourself, but also recognize, if I feel that way at 42, what does a child feel?”

The interview offers insight into how Smollett continues to navigate public perception, personal growth, and the impact of past controversies.
