Delta State University has identified the student found dead on campus Monday morning as Demartravion “Trey” Reed, 21, of Grenada, Mississippi.
According to Delta State University Police Chief Michael Peeler, Reed was discovered just after 7 a.m. hanging from a tree near the pickleball courts in the central part of campus.
“Our community is deeply saddened by this loss. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of all those impacted by Tre’s loss,” said Delta State University President Daniel Ennis in a statement to WDSU-6.
Chief Peeler noted that the case is under investigation and that the Mississippi medical examiner’s office will provide further details once its review is complete. “Pending an investigation, further investigation and also from the medical examiner’s office, we won’t have more information until that part has been done,” Peeler said.
University officials encouraged students and community members to support one another as the campus mourns Reed’s death. Counseling resources have been made available for those affected.
