“A Million Ways to Die in the West” stars, is directed and is co-written by Seth MacFarlane. The movie hits theaters this Friday, May 30 – to see or not to see, that is the question.
For the entire one hundred-sixteen minutes duration of the film, you would have thought I would have enjoyed more than just the popcorn. For the most part, it was hard to laugh.
It’s a hard land for hard folk in the American West where Seth plays a timid sheep farmer in 1882 named Albert. He chickens his way out of a gunfight dual, gets dumped by his finical girlfriend, Louise (Amanda Seyfried) who no sooner couples up with business-owner Foy (Neil Patrick Harris). After Foy steals Alberts girl and his joy, he wind’s up saving the new town beauty Anna (Charlize Theron), who helps him to discover courage within himself and later uses it to outsmart Clinch (Liam Neeson) the most vicious killer of the west, and who happened to also be Anna’s husband.
Some special cameos and a few unexpected surprises help bring it all together before the credits hit the screen. For those of you who can appreciate MacFarlane at his best with shows like “Family Guy” and the movie “Ted” under his belt, you just might be able to stomach the type of comedic style in “A Million Ways to Die in the West.”
