New York Knicks v Boston CelticsRajon Rondo is usually fairly quiet surrounding free agents and doesn’t say much about teaming up with others but now he’s breaking his silence.  With Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce gone and the Celtics chock full of draft picks, it’s obvious they’re in rebuilding mode.  There’s been questions about whether or not Rondo will be a part of that process with more reports leaning towards his trade.  Celtics president Danny Ainge has maintained that he has no interest in trading Rondo and his latest efforts to bring in another star could prove he’s telling the truth.

The buzz was surrounding the Celtics efforts to bring in Kevin Love through a trade and Love even visited Boston and briefly spoke with Rondo.  Now there’s a chance to bring in Carmelo though Anthony always has had a distaste for Boston and the Celtics seem far from being title contenders.  Ainge could have draft pawns to pull off a sign-and-trade with the Knicks and Rondo agrees.

“You never know what Danny’s capable of doing. I can’t tell you too much. We want to turn it around next year. Danny has a lot of wiggle room the past couple of years with what he’s done in the draft. Hopefully [Anthony] won’t go to Chicago.”

“I think after we try to get Melo and add an additional piece, who knows? The sky’s the limit. I play to try to win a championship every year. With Melo, I think it’s very possible.”

The Chicago Bulls have been the main contender to land Anthony, pairing him up with former MVP, Derrick Rose and Defensive Player of the Year, Joakim Noah.  Rondo notes that Anthony could very well be the Bulls missing piece.

“I hate to say it, but he just might be [the missing piece],’’ Rondo said on ESPN’s Numbers Never Lie. “[The Bulls] have a great center in Joakim Noah who holds down the paint and one of the best pick-and-roll defenders in our league. And with Derrick Rose coming back, you have a Big Three in Chicago. Melo could be the missing piece, but if he does a move like that, we’ll have to figure out something in Boston.’’
