This weekend, DisneyNature released their annual wildlife film, featuring monkeys!
Monkeys were always known to be intelligent, however, little did we know there is a social order within their society. The film follows a female monkey, Maya, as she rises through the ranks of her troop. Born into the lower class, she can only struggle to survive by scavenging scraps to eat. She then births a baby boy, Trip, which is she is forced to raise on her own, under the scrutiny of the upper classes. However, when trouble arrives as another monkey troop takes over their precious territory, she proves her value to her troop by leading the troop to unknown areas for safety.

The film is vastly different from other documentaries, as it provides comedic comments from legendary comic, Tina Fey. She lightens up serious moods and explains what’s going on in friendly, child-familiar language. By doing so, audiences of all ages are able to understand the film to the fullest extent.

The film is also a great conversation starter for youngsters to understand one of our close relatives, as well as the world around us. Like all DisneyNature films, proceeds from opening weekend for every ticket sold opening week (April 17-23, 2015), Disneynature will make a donation to Conservation International to help protect monkeys and other endangered species in their natural habitats. The film is in theaters April 17.
