Going into his 3rd year in the NFL, New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith has had a tumultuous time in the NFL to say the least. Amassing some very abysmal numbers during his career, Smith has been one of the main targets by the media in regards to the Jets struggles on the field. Recently, 35 league insiders were asked by ESPN to rank all 32 NFL starting quarterbacks. Smith ranked dead last in the poll. Further adding insult, Geno was ranked prior to the 2014 season as well.

When asked about his ranking, Smith laughed it off.

I laugh at that. I laugh at it. It’s hilarious. It was hilarious last year, too. That doesn’t matter at this point. We’ve got to work on us as a team. That’s why I hate to talk about individual stuff, because it’s a team game. No matter what they rate me, wherever we finish at the end of the year is what’s most important.

Smith’s career statistics after two seasons is as follows.

  • 57.5 completion percentage
  • 6.88 yards per attempt
  • 25 touchdowns
  • 34 interceptions
  • 71.5 quarterback rating

With new head coach Todd Bowles at the helm, and new backup Ryan Fitzpatrick, who had a 95.3 QB rating last year, Smith needs to get his numbers up if he expects to keep his starting job.
