From the release of his sophomore album Still Brazy, Compton native YG is currently on a furious media run. In the process, he has been addressing much of the incidents that have occurred since the release of his debut album My Krazy Life back in 2014. One of the topics that has seldom been spoken on is his fallout with producer DJ Mustard, the man who was instrumental in crafting the sound that brought YG to prominence and dominated the entire rap scene.
In his recent interview with The Breakfast Club, YG explains that his beef with Mustard is one that he expected, stating that when success comes, it is only a matter of time before the divisions begin.
“It was just internal homies stuff,We was poppin’. We was all from the same clique. So, us three together had come with a gang of young, black males. And you know, when you got a gang of people around you, you start dealing with success and money. You got a gang of people around you in any situation. You really ain’t got too much going on. It’s gonna be a little messy. And that’s when things start getting messy. This person start feeling this type of way. This person is feeling this type of way…I know it was something we was gonna have to go through to get to the next.”
DJ Mustard and YG have since shown that they are definitely on more amicable terms but Mustard’s production is noticeably absent on YG’s Still Brazy album. Watch the interview below.
