In a speech that lasted over an hour, Trump made a laundry list of promises to the American people. It was obvious from the start that Trump has mastered declarative statements, but his speech lacked any real details.

Trump painted America as a dark place in need of fixing and saving. And while this country does need work, Trump’s tone made it seem like the world was collapsing around us, and he was the only one who could save us. He also turned his sights on Hillary Clinton, who will accept the Democratic nomination for President next week. He shouted:

“This is the legacy of Hillary Clinton: death, destruction, terrorism, and weakness.”

Trump also changed Hillary’s slogan from “I’m with her” to “I’m with you,” implying that he was the champion of the American people. For now, Trump will fall back into the shadows as the Democratic convention dominates the headlines for the next week, but very soon we will hear from him again, as the candidates head for the home stretch.
