Few rappers understand the power of ownership quite like Jay-Z. Jay is hoping his latest venture can take his Paper Planes clothing line to new heights.

S. Carter Enterprises has filed a trademark application for rights to the brand. Once approved, Hovito and his team will expand the brand in a large scale order, thus opening possibilities for exclusive retailers. They want to build out a retail environment, so that Paper Plane brand will land somewhere near you.

A prime retail environment will consist of department stores, an online site, and music. Furthermore, the team wants to further develop the Paper Plane logo. This could introduce new merchandise to the market such as:  athletic gym bags, tour books, jewelry as well as a cosmetic line.

Seeing as Rihanna is a good friend of Jay’s, sky is the limit for a cosmetic line. All these products will bare the plane logo.

Earlier this year, Jay filed a trademark application for his “Jaybo” character, which was designed by his business partner Emory Jones. Jaybo made his debut when he was featured in Jay-Z’s OJ Storyvideo.

The first quarter of the year is well underway, and Jay continues to find new ways to diversify his business portfolio. Coming a long way from his days in the hallways of Marcy projects, he has matured with Hip-Hop through the years. Twelve years ago, he let you know he was a grown man:

“By twenty-two I had that brand new Ack Coupe I guess you can say that my legend just begun I’m young enough to know the right car to buy Yet grown enough not to put rims on it”

Fast forwarding, it would appear Hov could care less about not receiving a Grammy award this year. When your companies retain equity and produce profits, aside from your contributions to music, you just dress nice and bring the family to the ceremony.
