Show creator Matt Groening and producer Al Jean both agreed with Brooks to pull the episode in wake of the controversy. Brooks told the Wall Street Journal, “There are a lot of great memories we have wrapped up in that one, and this certainly doesn’t allow them to remain.”

Michael Jackson appeared on the first season of episode 3 “Stark Raving Dad,” but was uncredited due to contract issues but it was confirmed later on that he actually did star in the episode. It features the song, “Happy Birthday Lisa,” which Jackson wrote for the show.
