Thanks to the constant lobbying by Charlamagne Tha God, The Boondocks comic strip will be making its return soon. Charlamagne posted various several pics to his personal Instagram that featured samples of the new comic strips from The Boondocks this week
The new content will be produced by Aaron McGruder, the creator of the series, and series animator Seung Kim in honor of Black History Month. The Boondocks is known for not shying away from hot topics and in keeping with those traditions, the new content will give their take on the #MuteRKelly movement, President Donald Trump, and much more.
The show chronicles a Black family, the Freemans, as they attempt to make a new life for themselves in the white suburb of Woodcrest and all the struggles they encounter.
“Did these for fun (and to see if I still could). More to come… exactly how much more is tough to say. These strips were only possible due to the enormous talent of my good friend Seung Kim, who did the animation for the old show – and he’s a busy guy,” the comic creator added. “Thanks to him and thanks to Charlamagne for putting these out for me while I get my Instagram act together.”
The Boondocks began as a daily syndicated comic strip created in 1996 for Hitlist.com. In 1997, it was printed in The SOURCE magazine. The Boondocks would eventually be picked up by the Universal Press Syndicate and made its national debut in April 1999.
McGruder would then sell the television and film rights to Sony Pictures Entertainment and the satirical comic strip was turned into an animates series for Cartoon Network in November 2005. It aired as an adult-themed cartoon on Adult Swim programming block of the Cartoon Network until June 2014.
