34 Nights 37 Show and Talks Featuring 236 Artists

In just 8 days the Red Bull Music Academy will launch a series of live shows and in-depth talks featuring some of the most unique and influential artists in and out of hip hop. Taking place in New York City in over 30 different venues, the events should be on your to do lists as the Red Bull Music Academy will have a little something for all acquired tastes.

In film, the academy will be teaming up with Ego Trip to present Filmmatic: An Evening of Rare Hip Hop Documentaries at Sunshine Cinema. You can catch three classics Beat This by Dick Fontaine (1984), Big Fun In The Big Town by Bram van Splunteren (1986), and Reckin’ Shop: Live from Brooklyn (1992) by Diane Martel. The screening is garnished with a panel consisting of Afrika Bambaataa, Schoolly D, Buddha Stretch, Dick Fontaine, Diane Martel, and Bram van Splunteren. Chairman Mao of Ego Trip will serve as the host.

Headlining the talks is Erykah Badu. A Conversation with Erykah Badu at Brooklyn Museum will allow the audience to ask questions as Badu covers artistic freedom, motherhood, controversy, and maintaining a unique style throughout her career. She will cap off the evening by performing a DJ set at the Music Hall of Williamsburg in Red Bull’s Brainfeeder Session.

A DJ battle will ensue on May 9th at Roseland Ballroom for Culture Clash. Federation Sound vs. Fool’s Gold vs. Just Blaze & Young Guru vs. Que Bajo?! in what will be an epic night if you like to witness a good old fashion DJ stand off.

Questlove will also be a part of the festival in multiple shows. He kicked off promotional efforts for Red Bull in an outdoor pop up show alongside Rahzel a few weeks ago in Soho. Hip Hop most definitely plays a huge role in this ensemble. Drum Majors is another show featuring Mannie Fresh, Boi-1da, Young Chop, J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League, Bangladesh, DJ Mustard, and Drumma Boy emphasizing on the importance of beatmakers and how they have been able to be diverse and cross over to different genres.
