No matter how you feel about him, you can’t overlook what Alex Rodriguez has accomplished in Major League Baseball. He has a .300 career batting average, 647 home runs, over 2,900 hits, and has batted in 1,898 runs. Rodriguez has been named to 14 All-Star teams, won 3 Al MVP awards, was the AL home run champion 5 times, and won the World Series with the 2009 Yankees. His stats are beyond impressive, but he has had a hard time getting the media on his side, especially with poor performances in the Playoffs. This was exasperated in 2004, when he was attached to the BALCO case.

Rodriguez admitted to falling victim of naiveté and pressure to perform, which led him to take steroids from 2001-2003. However, he hasn’t been able to distance himself from performance enhancing drugs. Recently, he has become the biggest name associated with the Biogenesis Clinic. Bud Selig has stated that he is considering punishing Rodriguez harshly. This may be the last time we see Alex Rodriguez in Yankee pinstripes—Selig has threaten a lifetime ban. It would be unfortunate for his career to end in this manner. Hopefully he will be able to work something out, and get back to playing.
