Battle Rap’s Top 5 Dark Horses

1. J.Dose

The story of J.Dose is the perfect underdog story.  Most who viewed his infamous battle with Math Hoffa were of the opinion that he was winning the battle.  More so, he walked into a gymnasium dolo, with no one knowing his name or reputation, and seized the attention and respect of the crowd.  Then he got punched in the face and the video of the incident marked his entire existence from that point forward.  His name became synonymous with being punched.  The fact that he wowed the New York audience at his first Smack battle was forgotten entirely.  Years passed and the world heard little from Dose. He seemed to have disappeared until earlier this year when a re-match between him and Hoffa was booked.  Opinions about who won the re-match were split and Dose clearly had some rust to shake off from his hiatus. Nonetheless, Dose exhibited moments of sheer greatness during the battle.  Dose then won a 1-round battle with Ah Di Boom and faced off against former underdog Lotta Zay in the span of weekend, but Smack never dropped the footage. What happened to the battle is a mystery as some who attended the event called it the battle of the night, but the outcome of the battle will weigh heavily on the underdog story of J.Dose.  Nonetheless, Dose not only exhibits expert wordplay and metaphor usage (even beyond turning “domes into stadium’s) but most of all, it’s the sheer passion and aggression of Dose that makes him a great performer.  Check out his Dose’s recent music video, here.
