Trill S*** Only kind of, I don’t want to say sounded clubby, but it was definitely more upbeat than Half Forgotten Daydream. Was that just because you were smoking a lot or was there something behind that?

Curtis: I mean, on Trill S*** Only I didn’t really have no real creative. Dex would just like, every beat he gave me or every beat he played, we made a song on. Literally. Me and Key! we would sit there, the first two songs I did, I did at Dex’s house. The first time we ever made some s***, he played two songs, immediately I rapped on. I didn’t really think about it, I just rapped on it. Then he would send beats every day, I use to stay at my boy Kebo’s house, who mixes and records all of my s***. So everyday Dew would send like another beat. I didn’t really have a lot of beats, so I had to rap over every beat that was sent to me. I was like ‘damn, even if this beat isn’t that dope, I don’t really got no other beats. I want to record though, like I really want to record. F***, alright.” So then I would be like, “send some more, send some more’.

But with Half Forgotten Daydreams, I had really all of my homeboys. Like we’ve been making stuff together, but I really got them to f*** with me and say okay, and understand where I’m coming from. And they thought it was worth it, because you know everyone has their own agenda. They’re like ‘Okay I’m going to do this for you, or I’ll lay this verse for you when I can,, or when I can.’ But I kind of got all of them like: Ron Shaw, Childish, Dex, Eric. I think that’s the only producers.

Light Skin: Frank’s on there.

Curtis: Oh yeah, Frank. I got a beat from him. That was pretty tight. They really set that s*** up. They had pretty much made the song for me and s***. And then I just really did the verse. They got the chick, Bosco, to sing the hook. He made the beat. They just made the song for me. I recorded it, but songs like that I got to really make what I wanted to make. I got to tell Childish, like the intro. It is produced by Childish and Dex, but really that beat is like Dex beat from like three years ago. He sent it to me and I did the song on it, and Childish was like ‘brah I want to do some s*** at the beginning’. So really all Childish did was played the piano for a minute, but I got him to do it. And then Eric was amazing, he found me on soundcloud. So me and him could make what the f*** we wanted to make. There was more freedom.

And then we had the studio then too, and we was in the studio like every day. So then I could do whatever I wanted to do. So I think that’s why the sound is a little more different.

It was well received, how did that make you feel?

Curtis: It was amazing, for real. Cause I really f*** with Half Forgotten Daydream. That was like, Trill S*** Only and all of that other s***, I like it. I’m not saying it sucks or anything, but I don’t really f*** with it though. I don’t f*** with it though, to be honest with you. When n****s be like yo, you got music? I tell them my first mixtape is Half Forgotten Daydreams, that’s how much I f*** with it.
