Kendrick Lamar Was Signed To Def Jam By Jay Z
Although the exact details aren’t clear, we know that at one point early in his career Kendrick Lamar (then K Dot) was part of Def Jam and signed through Jay Z. Kendrick jokes that he doesn’t think Jay even remembers him. The deal collapsed when Jay left the Presidency at Def Jam behind. It’s pretty crazy to think how different things could have went, especially considering one of the major gripes with Jay Z’s run as president was the lack of rap talent that he produced while at Def Jam.
