Alsina fans have been riding with the young crooner since his early days as a YouTube sensation. It’s crazy to think that just a year after the singer’s top chart hit “I Luv This Sh**” featuring Def Jam label mate Trinidad James graced the R&B world, the New Orleans cutie still has people rocking with him when the club banger comes on. Trailblazing through a competitive R&B world, it’s not hard to see just how passionate Alsina is about his music. At the young age of 21, Alsina has accomplished so much and come so far despite a rocky upbringing.
Growing up, Alsina encountered a life filled of drugs and violence. With both his father and step father battling crack addiction, Alsina’s mom relocated their family to Houston, Texas. At the age of 14 Alsina learned that his father, August Sr., lost his battle with drugs. Just two years later Alsina was kicked out of his home and turned to the streets alongside his older brother who was shot and killed a few days shy of the teen’s 18th birthday. In turn Alsina used his brother’s death as motivation to pursue his musical passion. A picture says a thousand words and despite his imperfect childhood, Alsina can’t seem to stop smiling these days, and why should he?
