Happy Birthday, Chance.
Chance The Rapper‘s career-making album, Acid Rap, was released exactly one year ago today. It was the album that propelled him to one of 2013’s major bright spots, and helped make him The Source‘s Rookie of the Year for 2013, not to mention touring worldwide and an extremely successful national tour (The Social Experiment Tour) that has pretty much made him a household name.
Despite some interesting nuances lately–Drake gave him an interesting shoutout (?) on “Draft Day”, and he had to cancel his appearance at the second weekend of Coachella due to falling ill enough to be hospitalized–Chance is back with new music, and chances are, there’s a good amount of people that can relate to this new cut. Hopefully, this begins a season of new music from Chance, who hasn’t officially released much of anything since Acid Rap.
