A touchy subject gets untouched by the legendary entertainer
For quite some time–close to a decade for anyone keeping track–allegations of rape and inappropriate relationships concerning Bill Cosby have floated around, been whispered about, and reported on, but they’ve remained just that: rumors and whispers. However, in light of a very recent, detailed allegation that came with a corresponding Washington Post column, Cosby’s name is once again in headlines nationwide for unfavorable reasons. Therefore, when he made a scheduled appearance on NPR’s Weekend Weekend Edition, the host of the show, Scott Simon, decided to give Cosby an opportunity to clear the air, or make whatever comment he would’ve liked to make on the situation, and Cosby, as per the show’s transcript, did nothing but shake his head several times.
SCOTT SIMON: “This question gives me no pleasure, Mr. Cosby, but there have been serious allegations raised about you in recent days.”
BILL COSBY: [SILENCE]
SIMON: “You’re shaking your head no. I’m in the news business. I have to ask the question. Do you have any response to those charges?”
COSBY: [SILENCE]
SIMON: “Shaking your head no. There are people who love you who might like to hear from you about this. I want to give you the chance.”
COSBY: [SILENCE]
The silence can be interpreted as “no comment” quite easily, but one would have to assume that at some point, Cosby or someone from Cosby’s camp would have to make an official statement, especially considering the woman that made the most recent allegation was recently published in one of the country’s most reputable papers.
