Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch gets some help from a concerned fan.
Seattle Seahawks all-pro running back Marshawn Lynch has always had a love-hate relationship with the media since he first entered the league back in 2007. Over time, his stance on interviews has gotten more stern, with him avoiding post-game press conferences citing anxiety as a factor. Since winning last years Super Bowl with the Seahawks, Lynch has expressed that his lack of supporters in the media might prevent him from one day entering the Hall of Fame.
The running back used a different method for most of the 2014 season as he hilariously answered post-game questions with one-liners and tongue-in-cheek sarcasm. With the Seahawks on the brink of another Super Bowl appearance as they take on the Green Bay Packers in Sundays NFC Championship game, one Seahawks fan has taken matters into her own hands by starting a petition asking for the NFL to revise their media policy and stop the media from “bullying” Marshawn Lynch.
As of late Wednesday (January 14), the petition has yielded close to 40,000 signatures.
Wendi Bromlie‘s petition reads:
As a 12, I am calling on the NFL to revise its media policy so that all players are given equal and fair rights as a human being without fear of financial intimidation.
As a fan, I have witnessed enough harassment and undeserving consequences regarding Marshawn Lynch due to his very obvious anxiety interacting with the media. I feel, and many agree, that what you are doing is wrong. You advocate against bullying and domestic violence, but force your players into uncomfortable situations? With a fine attached? There are other players willing to talk to the media and it should be a personal choice.
Your rules state “Reasonable cooperation with the news media is essential to the continuing popularity of our game and its players and coaches.” I don’t feel your rules are reasonable as they read currently, considering the only benefit “popularity” wise the NFL gets by bullying Marshawn is money out of his paycheck. This is not ok. And it needs to change because its unnecessary and cruel, as well as hypocritical.
Enough is enough!
I’m thankful. – @Rocko_CNK
