Somebody please explain
The real crime here, is that nobody ran onto the court during this debacle to try and stop it. How did the game actually finish without a riot breaking out? Arroyo Valley High School is full of superior athletes–we don’t know any of them, but what else are we supposed to deduct from a 159-point victory?–and let’s just say Bloomington High School is, well, more focused on other things. There are plenty of oppositions like that all over the country, i.e. any of the last 16 or so New York Knicks games, but the parity in this particular contest was probably a little more pronounced. We’ll let Arroyo Valley High School coach Michael Anderson alleges that he told all of his players not to attempt a shot until there were 7 seconds left on the shot clock–next time, try 0 seconds Mike–and he benched all his starters for the second half. That seems like a charitable approach, except for the fact that by halftime, the score was already 104-1. A little late for the mercy rule, don’t you think?
Anderson has been disciplined by Arroyo Valley for the incredibly one-sided affair, and made sure he added “I didn’t think they’d be that bad.”
Classy.
