Pilot & Passenger Died In Fatal Crash After Taking Selfies Seconds Before Landing

An investigation finds pictures from a GoPro taken at low altitudes

In May 2014, a plane went down in Colorado after a take-off that began and ended shortly after midnight. According to a CBS report, the plane took off at 12:30 AM on May 31, and about 7 hours later, authorities discovered the wreckage about two miles from the site of takeoff, Front Range airport.

The National Transportation Safety Board’s report on the tragic incident revealed that a GoPro camera was found in the wreckage, and it contained footage of the pilot, Amritpal Singh, and his passenger, whose reality has yet to be made public, taking selfies at dangerously low altitudes. One of Singh’s professors, Jeff Price of Metro State University, speculates that the flash from the camera may have distracted his deceased student. Price referenced an prior incident in which Singh was distracted by the flash of a camera while he was flying, mistaking it for lightning.

To make matters worse, Singh–who also owned the plane–was not certified for nighttime flying, according to the NTSB.
