Trace Ellis Ross took the stage as a leader and role model, and less as an actress, when she received honors Wednesday at the NAACP Image Awards.
The daughter of black music royalty, Tracee Eliss Ross, is mostly known for her role in Girlfriends, where she starred from 2000 to 2008; however, on Friday, when honored with “Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series,” Ross, inspired and moved the topic from herself to the importance of womanhood and self-respect as a female.
I am more than my parts, and we all are–we need to change the days from how we are seen to how we are seeing.
Such a message was well warranted for a role model in urban communities where Ross has become an icon and sex symbol. Her characters are associated with families and females throughout America where her influence was well used for the greater good of females like herself, and those needing to change perspectives on their worth.
We salute you.
